The 7 year Labour of Love

The South Sea pearl is a labour of love.

From farming, grading, valuation to jewellery production, take a look inside the 7-year journey of the South Sea pearl to end up in your final piece of AUTORE MODA jewellery.

2 to 3 YEARS TO GROW THE HOST OYSTER

The South Sea pearl begins its journey at the AUTORE pearl farms located on the crystal-clear coastlines off Australia and Indonesia. For the first 2-3 years the Pinctada maxima, the largest and rarest of all pearl-producing oysters, is nurtured to the optimum age for growing a pearl.

2 YEARS TO GROW THE PEARL

Only once the host oyster has grown to the perfect size, it's ready to start the process of nurturing it's pearl. This process takes another 2 years. The South Sea pearl can only grow in pristine conditions, so the environment is The AUTORE Group's biggest asset.

6 to 12 MONTHS TO GRADE THE PEARLS

Following harvest, the pearls are transported to The AUTORE Group's Sydney headquarters for grading and sorting. Over the course of 6-12 months, each pearl is weighed, measured and assessed according to the AUTORE Five S’s – Shine, Surface, Shade, Shape and Size™.

1 YEAR OF DESIGN & PRODUCTION

Over the course of a year, one by one, the pearls pass through expert hands and are carefully selected for each new jewellery design. The pearls are complimented with only the highest quality precious stones including Diamonds & Sapphires.

AUTORE MODA sustainably sources all South Sea Pearls used in their jewellery from the affiliated AUTORE Group Pearl Farms, allowing us to have full control over the supply chain, and the opportunity for first selection of pearls from the harvest.
